is this supposed to be freedan? the knight that the main character will can turn into....i remember that game a bit, his color scheme was originally blue!

Yes, it's Freedan. And someone else also pointed out the bit about his armor being blue elsewhere; I thought it was just some lighting, and that it was naturally some dark black or gray color, but a bit of variation is probably acceptable.
